I have not had the best experience as a distance learner in this past year.      There are things I enjoy about it, but also a lot of things that were negative. I enjoyed being able to learn from a guaranteed save environment. Being at home is the safest place for me and for other people who could possibly be infected. I do not think that this was unnecessary, I think that it was the right thing to do. However, for me personally it has not been the best for my mental health. It has taken some of the pressure off of me when it comes to school since we are not in person and the intensity has died down. But, being stuck inside and not being around as many people really has taken a tole on me. Not only that, but also the repetitiveness of assignments and online content. I think that when I am a teacher, I am going to put less stress on deadlines and  adapt the concept of "quality over quantity" because it is completely unnecessary to have piles and piles of homework for a cl

I think I will use survey tools as a teacher to figure out where the students are in their learning and development. Even though in secondary education, the classes are organized by skill set, there is still going to be a vast difference in the experiences and needs of the students. It will be my job to figure out how best to cater to each of the students needs. Surveys can help with that, and also help to see if my methods of teaching is effective as the year or semester goes on.  After reading my classmates blogs, it was interesting seeing how similar our experiences with technology in school is. It was also cool to see how different it was across states. I am from Pennsylvania, so my public school experience will be different than someone who grew up in Florida their whole life. It was just fascinating reading about the similarities and differences.  I want to learn more tools that I can practically use in the classroom with my students. Also new ways to stay connected with the stud

After completing the Web Design assignment, I gained some new skills that will help me in the future as an educator in this time of technological advancement. It was overall a fun assignment, it got me excited for when I will have my own classroom with my own students and parents to communicate with. This assignment helped me to become more aware of what kinds of things I can include in my website that I would never have thought of before, like a "contact us" option. I really liked being able to be creative and have fun with making my  website .       I have not used Diigo since our first portfolio check, so I have not been able to learn anything new since I last used it. But I did learn a lot when I first used the website.  It is important for teachers to stay up to date on technological advancements in education. Students are always looking for the next "thing" when it comes to social media and technology. They lose respect for a teacher who tries to relate to

I have enjoyed using Diigo so far. It was hard to get used to at first, but the more I use it the more I understand how it works and how to navigate it. It is unlike any other website I have used for a class, so it is good that I am branching out and learning more. I do not like how it was hard to use at first, I feel like the layout of the website could be clearer and easier to navigate. But besides that I like it.  Blogging has been fun honestly. I like to write, so I would rather write 10 blog posts instead of a test any day. I also really like how we are able to read our classmates blogs and interact with them. I really enjoy reading what other people have to say and how they tackled the questions asked in the prompts.  I think I will definitely want to use YouTube when I become a teacher. Youtube is a great resource that has a lot of educational videos. It is a easy way to convey information to a classroom, especially since some students learn better when they hear it from someone

My early experiences using twitter before this class has been strictly for entertainment purposes. I never really interacted with anyone on this app; followers and likes were not a big deal to me. I was there just to look at news and funny videos. But since starting this class, I have started interacting with people way more than on my personal account. Twitter, when used for educational purposes, helps to create a community in which people can come together and talk about their profession and things they have learned that they want to teach others. This is definitely a tool I will be using in the future when I have a classroom of my own. It will help me be able to learn new things from people who have been teaching longer than I have.  The digital divide is a term that is very relevant in education today and will continue to be once I become a full time teacher. This term refers to the disparity amongst students who have access to technology and students who either do not as much or d

One of the ELA standards for eleventh and twelfth graders is that as a teacher I am expected to incorporate the strategic use of digital media in presentations to engage the students. I feel like I am prepared to implement this based on my current skill set because I am expected to do this same thing in a lot of my courses. I have been using things like powerpoint and Google Slides for years now to give presentations, and my favorite part about making these presentations was always adding media and making it exciting for those listening, which is what this ELA standard is asking of us teachers.  When on CPALMS website I found a lot of resources for teachers teaching highschool students, especially for English Language Arts. There are over 1,000 lesson plans and visuals that teachers can use when teaching their students. If I was teaching currently, this would be a great resource for me to use and implement in my teaching. I would definitely be taking advantage of this resource. Interne

In this age of technology and the progression of the internet, it is so easy to simply copy and paste other’s ideas. Copyright laws are what protect that from happening. If something is copyrighted, then whoever uses that picture, video, writing, or concept needs to credit the owner, or else they could be fined. Fair use is when you can use a certain part of someone’s work in certain situations without having to credit the owner. As a teacher, I am going to teach the kids what it means to steal someone’s content and how to properly go about using other people’s work. I will make sure it is a priority of mine to set an example by creating a lot of my own materials so that I myself am not breaking any copyright laws.  Technology is something that does a lot of good, but also a lot of harm. Two things that come to mind are  academic dishonesty and cyberbullying. I have first hand experience with both. In high school, teachers made it very easy to cheat on assignments because they stole qu
