Blog Entry #1
Hi everyone! My name is Abigail Puketza and I am a freshman here at Florida State University. I grew up in a suburban town forty minutes north of Philadelphia. I was never a fan of the cold winters or scraping ice off my mom's windshield in the mornings. So, when I was looking for schools, one of the criteria was a warm climate. After touring colleges down the coast, I fell in love with Florida State. So here I am!
Since I entered school around the time where technology was quickly advancing, I am not unfamiliar with the use of it in an educational setting. Each student at my high school had their own Google Chromebook provided by the school district, so most of our assignments were online. We used Google Classroom, Google Docs, Quizlet, EdPuzzle, virtual labs, online textbooks, and other online resources. Teachers started drifting away from the use of only blackboards and whiteboards and started using projectors and Smart Boards for class presentation.
I have a couple go-to learning resources that I use to help support my learning, but the one that helps out the most is my organizational tools. I use websites and a planner to help to keep myself organize. My major area of growth that I am focusing on this semester is time management and procrastination. These websites and my physical planner are very helpful resources to accomplish this goal.
Hi Abigail! I too am not a fan of cold weather so i get that. Also, the way you described your school is crazy to me. My school was not as fortunate to have all of those supplies but that is so interesting to know more about. Another thing i wanted to mention was the planner. I was just telling my roommate today that I need a planner because that physical paper makes it easier for me to see when everything is going on. I too am working on procrastination and time management and know its hard so good luck!
ReplyDeleteHi Abby! I too can agree that I'm not very fond of the cold, but it's never been a problem for me because I'm a born and raise Florida girl lol! In fact, I think Tallahassee might even be a little too cold for me during the winter, but I'm sure I'll survive hahaha. Speaking of procrastination, I can totally relate, as I have genuinely spent all my life mastering it. I love using planners and journaling too, and I think it's a great way to keep me up to par with my school work and a bit more motivated as I think it's definitely something we're all lacking during these tough times! Btw... I love Philadelphia!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Abbie! I actually have the opposite experience with growing up in a cold weather climate. Growing up in New Jersey, I didn't care for it all that much, but when I moved down to Florida I actually found that I missed it a lot! It's funny how different people I've met who've lived in both climates have such different experiences. I can't blame you for falling in love with FSU though! I also use a physical planner and find it really helpful for my procrastination. It keeps me in check so I know when something needs to be done. Plus, crossing things off a physical list feels a lot more rewarding! Procrastination and time management are definitely things I've struggled with through this pandemic so I hope it's going well for you!
ReplyDeleteHey Abbie! It's always interesting to hear how people who've grown up with certain weather grow to dislike it. Personally, as a native Floridian, I hate how warm it is here. I love the cold, but I've also never lived in it long enough to tire of it. It's awesome that you enjoy it here! It's crazy that your school district was able to supply you guys with Chromebooks. Before COVID and online learning, our use of technology was mostly limited to Office 365, whether we used our phones or personal laptops (if we even had them). It's good to hear that you're working on getting better with procrastination and time management. I know I definitely need to.
